MoW Champion Tracy Blood promoted a special eight-woman mixed martial arts tournament on the shores of Daytona Beach, Florida. Masters of Wrestling agreed to award the winner a shot at Blood’s title at a show during the upcoming fall series.
MoW correspondent Kimberly Kennedy welcomed the crowd that gathered around the ring, which was setup on the sandy beach. Kennedy said the weather was beautiful and the competition was eager to step into the ring. Kennedy introduced Tracy Blood, who was booed as she came to the ring.
Kennedy congratulated Blood on putting together the MMA tournament. Blood said she wanted to do this tournament for a long time and was happy to be able to make it happen. Blood said that she hand-picked the fighters herself and was excited to see who will come out on top. Kennedy remarked that Blood did not choose some higher profile MoW stars like Maria Estrella, Jessie Vega, or Cate Stiles. Blood got defensive and said she had already explained the tournament was for women looking for their big break and not for former champions and superstars who moonlight as wrestlers.
Kennedy asked Blood to explain the rules of the tournament. Blood explained that the tournament will consist of quarterfinal, semifinal, and final rounds. Each fight will be a single ten-minute round that can only be won by knockout, submission, or referee stoppage. A panel of judges will decide a winner in case of a time limit draw. No one is allowed to exit through the ropes once the fight has started. Wrestling moves are allowed but cannot use the ropes or turnbuckles. Blood said that all the fighters have been outfitted with regulation MMA gear, though Red Widow was granted permission to compete with her luchador face mask.
Kennedy quipped that the fans sounded as excited as she was for the tournament to begin and then introduced each fighter as she came down to the ring. When all the women stood in the ring, Kennedy announced the matches for the quarterfinal round.
Red Widow vs. Kami King
Annika vs. Paisley Alden
Alexandra Morgan vs. Meghan DeWitt
Yurei vs. Lucia Mendez
Tracy Blood wished all the women good luck and declared the tournament had begun.
Quarterfinal Round
Red Widow vs. Kami King
The fight began with both women trading checked kicks. King grabbed Red Widow and threw her to the mat, following closely behind with kicks to the back. Red Widow rolled away and came back at King in a defensive stance. King went for another kick, but Red Widow caught her leg and rolled her to the mat before diving on top of King and blasting her with punches. King blocked and shoved Red Widow away. King’s eyebrow began to bleed but she wiped it away and locked up with Red Widow. King pushed Red Widow back into a turnbuckle, causing the referee to break them up.
Red Widow returned to a defensive stance and moved around the ring as King looked for an opening. King went in for a forearm, but Red Widow spun her around and used a back suplex. King rolled to her feet and went into a defensive stance but stumbled, allowing Red Widow to hit her with a hard kick to the side, followed up by a tackle and a flurry of punches. King’s attempt to block the punches was futile and the referee broke up the exchange, stopped the match, and declared Red Widow the winner.
Kami King looked shocked as she was helped to her feet by trainers. Red Widow ran around the ring and celebrated what many would consider to be an upset victory.
Kimberly Kennedy sat next to Tracy Blood, who was lounging in the sun at ringside while drinking a cocktail. Kennedy asked Blood what she thought of the first match. Blood said that was surprised to see Red Widow win as she was out of her element because her high flying offense was not allowed in the tournament. Blood said that King is a good fighter, but Red Widow sent a message to everyone that she is hungry and should not be underestimated.
Annika vs. Paisley Alden
Paisley Alden found herself against the only professional MMA fighter in the tournament in Annika. Alden was careful about making a move and both women circled around the ring looking for an opportunity. The experienced Annika dodged a punch from Alden and transitioned it into a judo throw. Annika pounced at Alden, but Alden put up a knee that caught Annika in the breastbone. Annika rolled to the mat and Alden advanced toward her. Annika tripped up Alden with her legs, bringing Alden to the mat and allowing Annika to use a leg lock. Annika twisted Alden’s knee until she was forced to tap out. Annika was declared the winner.
Back at ringside, Kimberly Kennedy asked Tracy Blood about Annika’s quick victory. Blood said that she always respected Annika and as a former MMA fighter herself, thought of her first when putting together a list of competitors. Blood said that Alden was brave, but outmatched.
Alexandra Morgan vs. Meghan DeWitt
Meghan DeWitt wanted to take full advantage of Tracy Blood’s opportunity and came out of her corner with an aggressive attack on Alexandra Morgan. DeWitt rocked Morgan with kicks to the midsection but got in too close and fell victim to Morgan’s mat wrestling skills. Morgan used a takedown to ground DeWitt on the mat where she tried to force DeWitt into submissions.
DeWitt was able to break free and brought the fight back on two feet. The women sparred with fists and checked each other’s kicks. DeWitt caught Morgan’s arm and forced her to the mat where DeWitt unleashed a furious barrage of punches. The referee was moving in to assess Morgan’s situation just as she pushed DeWitt backward and kicked her hard in the jaw. DeWitt tumbled backward but continued to roll until she reached the ropes.
DeWitt looked wobbly but approached Morgan and tried for a kick. Morgan caught DeWitt’s leg and rolled her to the mat. Morgan dove on DeWitt and struck with punches. The referee pulled Morgan off DeWitt as it was clear that DeWitt was knocked out. Alexandra Morgan picked up the win and celebrated before checking on Meghan DeWitt. Morgan gave her a hug before medical staff attended to DeWitt.
Kimberly Kennedy commented on Morgan’s win. Tracy Blood said Morgan is a second generation wrestler like herself and that Morgan had a good eye for Meghan DeWitt’s movements and strong reflexes. Kennedy said that DeWitt was tenacious and should be proud of her performance, to which Blood shrugged and sipped on her drink.
Yurei vs. Lucia Mendez
Lucia Mendez brought Yurei to the mat with a takedown at the very start of the fight. Mendez tried to get Yurei locked into a submission hold, but Yurei kept slipping free. Mendez hit with some punches to soften Yurei until she was thrown aside. Yurei charged off the mat with a barrage of punches on Mendez. Mendez blocked, Yurei stepped back, and then pushed forward again with a short spear that stunned Mendez and sent her to the mat. Yurei wasted no time to lock Mendez in a chokehold that forced Mendez into submission. Yurei was declared the winner in a quick fight.
Kimberly Kennedy called the match short, but sweet, and congratulated Yurei on her victory. Tracy Blood said Mendez made the first move, but Yurei knew how to respond. Once Yurei shut down Mendez, there was no turning back.
Kennedy asked Blood about her thoughts on the semifinal round matches coming up next. Blood said that she sees Red Widow having an uphill battle against Annika but showed she is taking full advantage of this opportunity so anything could happen. Blood predicted that Alexandra Morgan and Yurei will fight tooth and nail but cautioned they save their energy for the final round.
Semifinal Round
Red Widow vs. Annika
Both women circled around the ring to size each other up before Annika moved in and tossed Red Widow to the mat. Red Widow was quick to recover and managed a takedown of her own. Annika rolled to her feet and struck Red Widow with kicks. Red Widow struggled to escape from a building offense as the fight continued.
Annika had Red Widow backing toward a corner and went for a kick that Red Widow dodged and came back with a vicious punch to the face. Annika stumbled back as Red Widow closed in and took her down to the mat with a hip toss. Red Widow began to stretch and focus her attack on Annika’s legs. The fight resumed upright and both women looked for an opening to strike. Annika, favoring damage to her right leg, stumbled a bit, and gave Red Widow a chance to connect her fist with Annika’s jaw. Annika fell backward to the mat and Red Widow climbed on top and began clubbing with punches. Annika’s arms were pinned under Red Widow, leaving her defenseless. The referee pulled Red Widow off Annika and called the stop to the fight. Red Widow was declared the winner.
Red Widow stood in the ring with her arms raised. Annika stood outside the ring and watched Red Widow with a curious look before turning away.
Kimberly Kennedy and Tracy Blood discuss what they had just seen. Kennedy said that Red Widow was the underdog against an MMA fighter and Blood added that this tournament could be her breakout moment.
Alexandra Morgan vs. Yurei
Tracy Blood expected this match to be highly competitive and she was right. Alexandra Morgan and Yurei sparred until Yurei hit with some kicks, sending Morgan into the defensive role. Yuri chipped away at Morgan with strikes until Morgan dodged a punch and came back with strong punches of her own. Morgan tackled Yurei and the women took the fight to the mat. Both women tangled as each tried to get the other into a submission. Morgan snuck in some short punches to Yurei but the Japanese star absorbed the blows and responded with some of her own.
Yurei had Morgan locked in an abdominal stretch submission on the mat, but Morgan was able to break free and got to a standing position. Yurei began to get up to meet her but was kicked in the head. Morgan got back on Yurei to keep the fight on the mat. Yurei powered out of a headlock and rose to her feet. Morgan jumped up and after a quick shoving match, both women began to throw a storm of punches at each other.
Yurei pushed Morgan back and ran at her for a spear. Morgan dodged, grabbed Yurei from behind, and suplexed her to the mat. Morgan rolled over Yurei, grabbing her legs in the process, and used a reversed Boston crab to force Yurei into submission. Alexandra Morgan was declared winner and would meet Red Widow in the final round momentarily.
Kimberly Kennedy asked Tracy Blood about the fight they had just seen. Blood said the fight was aggressive and Morgan showed how good she is as a mat wrestler. Both women were excited to see who would win the main event.
Final Round
Red Widow vs. Alexandra Morgan
The masked Red Widow sized up the larger Alexandra Morgan as the fight began. Morgan looked for a takedown, but Red Widow dodged her attempts and hit with some kicks. Morgan caught one of the kicks and whirled Red Widow to the mat. Morgan climbed on top of Red Widow and caught her with a few punches before Red Widow pushed her off. Morgan stayed on the attack, keeping Red Widow from getting in more offense.
Morgan was firmly in control of the fight as it continued until Red Widow used a drop toe hold to drop her to the mat. Morgan got up but was hit with a back suplex. Morgan was stunned by the move but rolled away quickly and gave herself some space to recover. Red Widow approached and Morgan went for a punch. Red Widow dodged, grabbed Morgan, and dropped her to the mat with a flap jack. This caused Tracy Blood to sit up from her lounge chair at ringside. Morgan was face down on the mat as Red Widow picked up her leg and applied an ankle lock. Blood stood up and began to yell at the referee. The referee looked at Blood but then back at Morgan just as she began to tap out. The referee called the match over and awarded Red Widow the victory and declared her the winner of the Beach Brawl tournament.
Tracy Blood stood up on the ring apron and glared at Red Widow, who pulled off her mask revealing herself to be Cate Stiles all along. Stiles was laughing as she flipped off Blood, who jumped down and ripped a microphone from Kimberly Kennedy. Blood screamed that Stiles ruined everything and declared that she was disqualified. Stiles could be heard telling Blood she will see her for the MoW Championship in the fall. Blood promised it would never happen before throwing the microphone and storming off.
Kimberly Kennedy entered the ring and congratulated Cate Stiles for her performance before thanking the fans for coming out to Tracy Blood’s Beach Blast and she would see them again for MoW’s upcoming fall series.
