It’s summertime which means Rapid Fire Wrestling is back with our annual Rapid Fire Festival! We’ve taken up residence on the sands of Miami Beach to bring you four weeks of action in the sunshine! I am Shawn Roberts, the voice of RFW, and this is the Rapid Fire Festival! Let’s get to it!
Welcome to Rapid Fire Wrestling!
The Next Generation Opens the Show
Longtime fans know the Rapid Fire Festival is different from our other shows. We loosen up a bit. We have some fun in the sun! This year’s residency in Miami Beach is no different. We had fans partying on the beach, playing volleyball, dancing, and enjoying a beverage or two (or three, or…). We kicked off our show with some fireworks, Kimberly Kennedy hyping up the show, and Phueng Ahunai’s music began to play.
Ahunai looked like a beach goddess here as she was carried to the ring on a platform carried by some muscular young gentlemen. After reaching the ring apron, Ahunai stood up, observed our audience, and entered the ring for an interview with Kimberly Kennedy.
Kennedy was not expecting Ahunai, especially with this lavish entrance, but like a pro she rolled into a chat anyway. Ahunai wasted no time proclaiming that her first season in RFW proved that it is out with the old and in with the new with her as the one leading the next generation of our great wrestling promotion.
This grand proclamation brought out one of the old guard. Tracy Blood, making her first appearance since Final Round 2024, walked down the sandy entrance way, stepped into the ring while amping up the crowd, and locked eyes with Phueng Ahunai. Blood addressed Ahunai by telling her that she has had her eye on RFW’s new star going back to her time in HAW and was excited to see her joining us. But as far as pushing aside the “old” generation…
“As much as I am excited about your future here, and it’s a bright future, you really don’t understand your place today. There’s been a lot of talk about RFW going into a new era, and you may be a part of that, but it doesn’t mean those of us who built this place are ready to step aside. You want to be the future? Prove it by facing me in this ring, right now.” -Tracy Blood
The crowd was hyped for this one, but alas, Ahunai laughed at Blood’s challenge and said they could fight but not this week. Ahunai left in a chorus of boos while Blood looked amused, if not slightly annoyed. The good news for you? RFW Commissioner Aurora Starkey later announced that Tracy Blood and Phueng Ahunai will compete next week!
Lords of Chaos vs. Chucky Arter and Eric Waves
Chucky Arter and Eric Waves made their very first RFW appearance at the 2023 Rapid Fire Festival and this year’s festival marks their first run as official roster members. The hot new tag team were mingling with the crowd that gathered around the ring until Lords of Chaos stepped into the ring for their match. Rex Anarchy and Ruslan Panov looked irritated by the jovial nature of Arter and Waves because they apparently don’t like to have fun.
This match was hotly contested with each team showing off their best teamwork. Arter was on a roll before tagging in Waves for a double vertical suplex on Panov. Waves covered but Anarchy dragged him off his partner to the outside and began blasting Waves with fists. This brought Arter over which eventually led to both teams brawling through the crowd!
Miraculously, this match returned to the ring before the referee threw it out. I really thought Arter and Waves were on the verge of winning but a simple eye gouge, unseen by the referee, allowed Anarchy to get an advantage that led to Lords of Chaos pulling off a win.
No shame on the performance of Chucky Arter and Eric Waves but Lords of Chaos came out on top in this one. Ruslan Panov ripped the microphone from our ring announcer and had a message for our tag champs.
“Navigators! We know you are out there. You’ve had a good, long run with those tag belts but Rex and I are here to take what we want, the way we want it, and so it’s real simple. We’re calling you out. Lords of Chaos vs. The Navigators. RFW Tag Team Championship. Let’s make this happen.” -Ruslan Panov
No confusion over the message! Navigators, your move.
The Elements Go Recruiting
Lost Cause’s Rus Samson was on the boardwalk wrapping up a run when he slowed down as The Elements stood in his way. Samson was alone here so it only makes sense he was defensive. The Elements weren’t there to fight, though, they came recruiting.
Tommy V and Marcus complimented Samson on his physique and skills but felt he was wasting his time with Lost Cause. Shannon Worth said The Elements believed he could do better.
“You could be Grand Champion if you wanted to be. You could be one of the dominant men in this company. Why spend your days crisping on the beach by day and getting burnt with those flunkies by night? The Four Elements need our fourth element and the way we see it is you’d be perfect. What do you say? Join us and be a winner or stay with Cool Spencer and Paisley Alden and fade into irrelevance? The answer seems obvious to me.” -Shannon Worth
Nobody could blame Rus Samson for joining one of the most dominant factions in NRWL history. Nobody could blame Samson for wanting to better himself. But, Samson firmly told The Elements he wasn’t interested in their offer and pushed past them. Just as he walked through The Elements, his Lost Cause friends approached him, wondering what was going on. Samson brushed it off as “nothing” and the trio made their way to the beach.
Talking About Home
Further down the boardwalk, our cameras caught sight of Lucia Mendez and Hector Diaz having a conversation over some ice cream. Both of these Mexican-born athletes call Mexico City home and the two were enjoying each other’s company as they talked about life back home. It looked like a nice, innocent conversation, but not to Andre Jordan. The former RFW Grand Champion approached his ex-girlfriend and Diaz and questioned what was going on.
Mendez was unsurprisingly irritated by Jordan’s interference, reiterating that they were no longer together and who she talks to was none of his business. Jordan pushed the issue, causing Diaz to step in and put a hand on Jordan’s chest to keep him from approaching Mendez any further. Jordan threw Diaz’s hand off of him and warned Diaz not to hurt Mendez. Mendez calmed the situation, leading Jordan to storm off, but I think we all know this isn’t the end of it, right?
Jessie Vega Gets Her Opportunity
Jessie Vega has had quite a year. She put out a new breakup themed album and “coincidentally” broke up with her girlfriend, Maria Estrella, which surely helped sales of that album. Vega’s record label has been promoting this year’s Rapid Fire Festival and as part of that deal, RFW Commissioner Aurora Starkey had to give Vega a prominent spot on this summer’s shows.
Vega came to the ring ready to wrestle against a mystery opponent. Vega was flanked by her record label representative Lee Lee Hunt, the most hated woman in pro wrestling right now. The crowd chanted awful things at Hunt as she struggled to break through the noise to address the audience.
“Let’s get this over with. Our wonderful commissioner, Aurora Starkey, promised Jessie an RFW World Championship title shot if she wins tonight. Now, I don’t think it is fair that Jessie must face a mystery opponent that she could not prepare for, however, I believe in Jessie just like all of you! So, Ms. Starkey, please send out our opponent!” -Lee Lee Hunt
“Our opponent?” Well, whatever. The Commish came out to reveal Vega’s challenge.
“Let me just say that I am thrilled to announce that Jessie Vega is about to face… Mia Mercury!“ -Aurora Starkey
Alright! Mia Mercury, the first ever RFW Wildheart Champion. This would make for a great match. Oh. But wait.
“And! And! Hold up! I wasn’t done. And Paisley Alden! And! Yurei! And one of the hot free agents in the OWA and making her second RFW appearance this year, Keira Ryan! And! And! Finally, another guest, from Gulf Coast Slammin’, Florida native Goldie Phish! Good luck everyone. I can’t wait to see this match.” -Aurora Starkey
As you could expect, Jessie Vega and Lee Lee Hunt were furious about this but the crowd was loving it!
RFW World Championship Number One Contender Match
Jessie Vega w/Lee Lee Hunt vs. Mia Mercury vs. Paisley Alden vs. Yurei vs. Goldie Phish vs. Keira Ryan
This one was as chaotic as you’d expect from a high stakes six-woman match. The action was intense from the start and though everybody had their moment to shine in the early moments of this brawl it was Yurei who began to take out everybody save Jessie Vega who rolled out of the ring to safety.
Yurei was absolutely dominant until Keira Ryan and Mia Mercury teamed up to take her down. Goldie Phish grabbed Vega on the outside and shoved her back into the ring where everybody had a chance to lay in some hits on her. I felt bad for my old broadcast partner, just a little, but seeing the mortified look on Lee Lee Hunt’s face made me enjoy what I was seeing.
This feel-good moment between Mercury, Ryan, Phish, and Paisley Alden had to come to an end when they refused to let each other go for a pin on Vega and this match once again became a brawl. Alden nailed Vega with a face buster and went for a pin but Hunt put Vega’s foot on the rope before calling the referee’s attention to it. Alden knew what was up, rolled out of the ring, and argued with Hunt before giving her a face buster right into the sand.
Mercury and Ryan found themselves in the ring alone as this match rolled on and began to fight. Mercury used a hurricanrana on Ryan but before she could follow up Vega slid into the ring and dropped her with a backstabber. Vega covered for a pin and pulled off the win!
The deck was stacked against RFW’s resident pop star but Jessie Vega managed to secure her spot as number one contender for Kassidy Fortune’s RFW World Championship. Lee Lee Hunt looked roughed up but ecstatic as Vega proudly paraded the ring celebrating her win.
The Iconoclast’s Reign Begins
The Iconoclast captured the RFW Grand Championship from Andre Jordan back at Spring Shockwave and came to the ring with his associate Dezzy Nightshade to celebrate the start of his second run with the title.
The Iconoclast began by blaming Andre Jordan’s lack of focus as the fatal flaw that cost him the title.
“Mr. Jordan did not understand the focus and dedication it takes to be a champion, and so he was his own worst enemy when he was challenged by me. He disappointed me. He disappointed everyone. I will not make that mistake and to beat me my challenger must be the best. I challenge anyone who thinks they are worthy to step into this ring. I truly am curious who you are.” -The Iconoclast
Someone answered that call! Kenneth Cobb came down to the ring and fearlessly stood face-to-face with The Iconoclast. Cobb pulled a microphone from his hoodie and said that he had been waiting to confront The Iconoclast from the moment the title changed hands. Cobb said the Grand Championship was the reason he came to RFW. As expected, this confrontation got heated and escalated until Cobb ducked a right hand and staggered the champion with one of his own.
Nightshade stepped in and spit purple mist in Cobb’s face and… nothing happened. Kenneth Cobb was totally unaffected! Nightshade and The Iconoclast escaped the ring and looked back at Cobb in total disbelief. Just like me. Just like the crowd. I mean… how?
RFW Wildheart Championship Match
Meghan DeWitt vs. Alexandra Morgan (c) w/Claudia Winter
One of the biggest surprises at Spring Shockwave was Alexandra Morgan defeating Meghan DeWitt for the Wildheart in a matter of moments. It was a shock victory and DeWitt walked into this main event match to prove that it was a fluke.
Morgan looked confident from the get go but DeWitt worked her way to offense after calculating a clothesline, ducking, and blasting the champion on the rebound with a flying knee! DeWitt covered for the win here but Morgan kicked out, avoiding another quick title change.
DeWitt wasted no time staying on the champion who was clearly rattled after that knee strike. DeWitt used a combination of kicks and takedowns in her fight to win back the Wildheart. Morgan ducked a second flying knee and hit DeWitt with a big boot. Both women hit the mat and lay there while the referee began to count. DeWitt got to her feet first but Morgan wasn’t far behind and after an intense nose-to-nose argument the two began exchanging blows.
DeWitt once again had the champion reeling but Morgan made a late match comeback before driving the challenger to the mat with a spinning side slam. It was one two three from the referee for Morgan to prove that her win back at Spring Shockwave was no fluke.
Claudia Winter looked pleased at her latest champion as Alexandra Morgan stood tall and proud holding the RFW Wildheart Championship high under the night sky. Meghan DeWitt watched from the sand at ringside and wiped tears from her eyes. She may not have regained the title but DeWitt should be proud of her title reign, the longest Wildheart Championship reign in RFW to date, and this fantastic match to close the first week of the Rapid Fire Festival.
That’s it for our time on the beach this week but be sure to come back next week for week two of the Rapid Fire Festival!
Hmmm. Wait. There’s One More Thing
A scene from a hotel room shows Marcus and Tommy V sitting at a table drinking whiskey and discussing a fourth member for The Elements. Shannon Worth steps into the hotel room from the balcony, sits down, and pours a drink.
Marcus: I just don’t get it. Rus Samson would be perfect. He’s got the strength, the skills, the presence. He just needs to get away from those morons he’s been hanging around with. What is the matter with him? We offered him the world!
Tommy V takes a sip and closes his eyes as the whiskey runs down his throat. He puts the glass down and looks out of the partially open balcony glass door where the ocean can still be heard.
Tommy V: Maybe he’ll come around. He might just need a little more encouragement.
Shannon Worth stares into her glass for a long, quiet moment and then gets up and pads over to a nightstand. She picks up her phone.
Shannon Worth: I have an idea. Let me call someone.
The scene slowly fades out as she places the phone to her ear.
Shannon Worth: Hey. It’s me.
