The following is a list of frequently asked questions about Rapid Fire Wrestling.
General
When was Rapid Fire Wrestling formed?
The promotion known today as Rapid Fire Wrestling (RFW) began in 1993 under the name Masters of Wrestling (MoW) by promoter C.W. Sunderland. MoW ran from 1993 to 1997 before closing.
MoW alumni, Jim “The Rebel” Rogers, founded the original RFW in 2015. Following a pilot series of shows, Rogers sold RFW to Sunderland and RFW continued to run until 2018. Sunderland relaunched MoW in the fall of 2019 in what was supposed to be a short lived farewell run but took on a life of its own and has continued since.
As the new MoW continued to evolve, it began to feel less like the MoW of the 1990s and more like RFW. The history of the defunct RFW promotion was formally folded into MoW and the promotion was renamed to Rapid Fire Wrestling in January 2024.
How often does RFW run shows?
RFW runs on a three season schedule. There is a spring season typically comprised of regular shows and a supershow finale. Rapid Fire Festival is a multi-week event that runs during the summer. RFW’s longest season runs in the fall and wraps up the year with our annual “Final Round” supershow.
While RFW is not active during the winter, it does run special presentation shows on occasion.
Who is in charge of RFW?
C.W. Sunderland is the owner of RFW and is responsible for the major decisions that go into running the promotion. This role is mostly behind the scenes but Sunderland does publish an annual “State of Rapid Fire Wrestling” post every January discussing the events of the previous year and what is to come for the coming seasons.
Aurora Starkey is the current commissioner of RFW and is responsible for talent relations and the production of all RFW shows. She is the public facing administrator of RFW. Starkey is a world-traveled veteran wrestler with multiple championship reigns to her name.
Championships
What is the difference between the various championship titles in RFW?
RFW currently recognizes four championship titles.
The RFW World Championship is the top title competed for in the women’s division. It is a singles title that was established in 2019.
The RFW Grand Championship is the top title competed for in the men’s division. It is a singles title that was established in 2019.
The RFW Wildheart Championship is a secondary title competed for in the women’s division. It is a singles title that was established in 2023.
The RFW Tag Team Championship is the top title competed for in the men’s tag team division. It is a team championship that was established in 2019
Do the championship titles from MoW 1993-1997 and RFW 2015-2018 share a lineage with the current titles?
No. We recognize the championship histories prior to 2019 but the active championships stand alone from those lineages.
Is the RFW Wildheart Championship the same title as the Wildheart Wrestling Club Championship?
No. Wildheart Wrestling Club was a women’s-only wrestling promotion that ran from 2018-2022. The WWC roster was brought into RFW upon its closure. WWC is not officially a part of RFW but the RFW Wildheart Championship was given its name in tribute to WWC’s contributions to women’s wrestling.
