Masters of Wrestling is back! It is a new generation but the fast and unpredictable action you remember is still here. Let us not slow things down. Time to talk about what happened at MoW’s return show in Scranton, PA!
Oleg Azarov and John Austin Baker opened the show with a predictably hard-hitting opening match. Azarov held his own but it was Baker who shined bright, laying out Azarov with a sidewalk slam and pinning him for the victory.
Larry Loudmouth interviewed Baker after the match. Baker recognized the high level of talent on the roster but was confident that he will capture the MoW Championship.
Many original MoW legends were in attendance. Mike Blood, The Rebel, The Druid, Falcon, Beast, Cro-Magnum, Tiger Johnson, Ghostly Image, Titan, and Buzzsaw were honored in the ring for their contributions to MoW.
Women’s wrestling was not a part of MoW’s original run but that has changed. Lucia Mendez and Aurora Starkey became the first women to battle in the MoW ring. Starkey, a world-renowned, second generation veteran, had her hands full with Mendez, who was performing on a big stage for the first time. Mendez rocked Starkey with an admirable display of technical wrestling. Starkey avoided several near falls. Mendez tried to lock Starkey in a triangle hold submission, but Starkey slipped free, mounted a late match comeback, and pinned Mendez after a powerbomb. Starkey stood tall but the crowd cheered Mendez for her solid effort.
Mark Blood came out for an interview with Larry Loudmouth. Blood said it is a dream come true to compete in MoW, the promotion where he grew up. He said MoW is just getting started and looks forward to his match against Jax Rivers later in the night because it will set the tone for everything going forward.
MoW has had a long tradition of a strong tag team scene and that has not changed! Aidan North and Pete Arrow, known collectively as The Navigators, faced Matt Griffin and Vance McElroy in tag team action. The Navigators came out strong early on but found that Griffin and McElroy were more than able to hold their own. After a flying elbow from Griffin to North sent both men outside, a brawl ensued outside the ring. Arrow powerbombed McElroy through the announce table and as icing on the cake, North dove off the ring apron on top of McElroy. Griffin came to the defense of his partner and neutralized Arrow by slamming him into the ring steps and then slamming the steps repeatedly into Arrow’s midsection. North recovered and brought the fight to Griffin, taking the action back into the ring. North gained the upper hand, tagged in a recovered Arrow who powerbombed Griffin and pinned him for the victory.
After the match, Larry Loudmouth interviewed The Navigators who apologized for wrecking his announce table. They said it was a hard-fought match tonight but they knew coming to MoW meant it was going to be a competitive fight to the top. Aidan North said The Navigators are the must-see attraction in wrestling. Arrow said to hold on for the wild ride.
Jax Rivers came down to the ring and looked ready for the main event match with Mark Blood. Blood came down to the ring and both men stared at each other until the bell rang. They shook hands before locking up. Both men traded holds and tested each other, slowing building up to become more and more aggressive. Blood began to pull ahead and began focusing his attacks on Rivers’ back. After escaping a Boston Crab, Rivers began to rebound. He attempted a German Suplex on Blood, but Blood shifted his weight. The earlier damage to his back caused Rivers to fall over. Blood tried to finish Rivers off with a tombstone piledriver, but Rivers slammed his knees together, crushing Blood’s temples and causing him to drop to the mat. Rivers made a strong comeback and tried for a flapjack, but Blood managed to flip over Rivers’ shoulder in midair and pulled off a neckbreaker! The crowd erupted in total surprise as Blood picked up Rivers and used a tombstone piledriver. He covered for the pin and was victorious over Jax Rivers. Following the match, Mark Blood celebrated in the ring as Jax Rivers looked on from a corner. Blood saw him and walked over. After a brief discussion between the two, Blood extended his hand for a handshake. Rivers hesitated but accepted the handshake. Blood raised his hand in a show of respect. Blood began to walk away but Rivers grabbed him by the shoulder, spun him around and dropped him with flapjack! The crowd booed in disapproval and shock. Jax Rivers looked angrily around the arena before focusing his attention on Mark Blood once again. Rivers assaulted the stunned Blood with punches, splitting his lip. He picked Blood up and once again dropped him with another flapjack. Rivers left the ring and ignored the jeers of the crowd as he walked backstage
